TOPIC: About ABQA

Turn out at Oak Flats has been good. We get anywhere between 25 to 50 per game usually. We also have a game once every month, since it's usually the admins that talk to the owners and everything.

Oak flats is a good option. I think one obstacle though we had before with trying to get people out there was that some kids might have needed a lift but you know how some parents can be about their kids going on road trips without them. I think this was one of our biggest problems with getting people together to go down to Shadowfox's part of NM to play at their plant down there. I talked to a bunch of the abqa indoor players who would have gone but most said that their parents wouldn't let them go because they didn't know us or who was going.... etc.

In this sport guys you have to realize that we're always going to be battling an up hill battle. To me its worth the fight.

I need to be clear about something. I'm not going to be riding in like a white knight saving the day. The only advantage I've got is that while I'm here in Cali I can observe what works for the airsoft community out here and see if we can apply it out there.

One thing no one has really done before is to have a rank & file type of organization. I think in our case it would work well. We need to find someone in every jr high and high school, one or 2 guys/girls who will spread the word about airsoft, post flyers and arrange meetings with school staff to see about us doing a demonstration for the kids there who might be interested. I think if we had a chance to get into the schools and use airsoft as a teaching tool it'd be a huge boost to our community. But we all know that is an uphill battle. All its going to take is one dumbass parent who doesn't understand to raise a ruckus and we'd be back to square one. But maybe something like DM competitions would work. (dm = designated marksman). Maybe work it out with the ROTC or something. John had the ROTC come out a few times but they never came back. IDK why. It might have had something to do with the red squad beating them REALLY badly.

Things CAN be done. I think we all know that the indoor, same place same map system just doesn't work, at least when people have to pay for it. I think we need to try things like reaching out to the schools and places where our core audience is at. Skate parks, after school programs, etc. Having John's rental armory would be great for this.

One more thing I want to throw out there. The 501st legion was/ is an all fan based garrison. Uniforms, requirements, etc. If we had that down here, our own platoon of guys with the same uni's, I've got a sneaking hunch we could branch out in ways yet untapped.

But mostly we need to find someplace in town to play on a weekly basis.

I agree that the one map system does not work for most people. would you want to play the same map over and over on Call of Duty or Halo? I think for an indoor place to be successful there would have to be at least two maps. I've had a couple ideas for a setup like this.

-There could be two completely indoor maps. One could be a mock urban setting (like abqa) and the other could be set up more like a paintball field. (Like oak flats or the old Paintball Action setup when it was on central and Eubank)

-There could be and indoor and outdoor field. The indoor field could be a mix of the two types I discussed above, and the outdoor could be the same except on a larger scale (2 story buildings, sniper towers, etc.)

The 2nd option prob. isn't realistic in terms of cost, but anyhoo, just some ideas to consider.

well I had an idea that is kind of like oakflats and ABQA rolled into one like you were saying except instead of them being seperate fields they could be integrated into one another. For example having a CQB town like area in the middle of the field with enough outdoor cover to support a full map sernario or one that used certain zones. it would monopolize the space because you could run two or even three seperate games at a time.

Hey, Now believe it or not! I have thought of every idea and proposal broughtup on this thread so far, just in the time that ive been trying to get ABQA back up and running. Ive been searching other CQB fields around the world and ive been resaerching what they are doing to be successful. Its truely amazing! Ive seen fields making their success by training movie actors how to run a CQB environment for maximum realism in a movie, and ive seen the Indoor/Outdoor field into one. Ive seen indoor fields 6 times as big as ABQA and some of the craziest props. If your one of the people that think i have quit, im here to say i havent. I even thought of the same thing Bishop had brought up, about doing school seminars. I think there would be a lot of parents out there happy to see a brief gun safety course take place at their son or daughters school for learning purposes. There are so many things we have already thought of, and many more to be touched. So lets work together and get this going people!! I am still trying to get this to work! and by the way, if you think an indoor field wont work because of the lack of change your not thinking it through. Its as simple as moving a few walls every two weeks and changing up some props and moving them around, as any experienced indoor player would know, its as simple as blocking a door to change the entire scenario. Its just a few things to think about. Thanks guys

You know Alex, now that you mention that I did see something on Youtube from a local news station up in Ohio (I think). Can't remember where it was, but they did a story on training movie actors and they talked about using training guns, then airsoft, and then blank-firing. It was a very interesting story. I'll try and find the video and post it on the thread for anyone interested!

Yea that's actually the video I was referring to. But there are so many different things out there, and we have to remember that New Mexico is the fastest growing movie production state in the US right now. So that would definately be an option to consider, and there are many more. But also like i was saying before, its very simple to change up an indoor fields layout if you design it right from the beginning, in order to allow quick and easy field changes. Which I'm sure both Law Enforcement and the public would be impressed over and excited. Well I'm glad to see everyone on here posting, lets keep it up and keep giving your ideas they are all considerable.

Thanks, Alex Klewicki
