Visiting NM, want to play airsoft. 3 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Hello fellow airsofters! I will likely be visiting relatives in Albuquerque, and would like to do some airsoft while I'm there. I am interested in taking a trip to Oak Flats, but have some questions:

-How long does it take to get there from ABQ?

-What are the field limits for FPS on airsoft guns?

-Could I possibly borrow a gun? I don't really want to have to bring my AEG all the way from Alaska. If needed, I could bring some bbs, a facemask, and possibly a MOLLE battlebelt..

-Does Oak Flats allow bio bbs? I have .2g and .25s.

-When should I come to the field, and on which days?

Thanks,
Lobo

Nice to hear that you're interested in coming out to NM for a visit! We don't get too many fellows travelling through and wanting to play some airsoft at the same time. To answer a few of your questions:

1. Oak Flats is about a 45 min - 1 hour drive from ABQ.

2. The FPS limit for guns are that you have to fire at least 350 and no more than 400. Anything over 400 is usually DMR or semi-auto fire only with minimum engagement of 20 feet or more. A lot of times it just really depends on who's running a game.

3. Sure you can borrow a gun! A lot of us have at least 2 or 3 guns that we don't usually use.

4. Oak Flats does allow bio bbs. The most popular ones are .2g bbs!

5. A majority of our games are on Sunday afternoons, but as far as what days they are we usually have the games posted up on the forum under "Upcoming Events." If you would like you can ask some of the other guys (Paulsen, Adam, Strider, etc.) for more info on any upcoming games in the future!

I hope this is helpful for you!

As for the men who tortured us, I don\\\'t hold it against them; they were doing their job and I was doing mine... it\\\'s just that some of them enjoyed it a bit too much. But if I ran into any of them in the street tomorrow, and thought they could get away with it, I\\\'d slaughter them.

Thanks man!

-There's a minimum FPS?

-Is it worth wearing camouflage at Oak Flats? If so, what works? I am tempted to buy an ACU for the occasion, as I only have temperate forest camouflage (Flecktarn, Woodland BDU, Woodland MARPAT)

-I will probably drop by on the 4th of July weekend. Are there ever games on Saturday (the 3rd)?

-Do I need/should I wear a full facemask, or should I bring my ESS goggles and a balaclava?

-How many players do you usually get?

-Which Oak Flats field do you all normally use for airsoft?

1. It kind of helps with what the FPS is. I would think that you would want at least more than 300 FPS and less than 400. 300 - 400 like an M4, MP5, AK, or etc.) are the most common and that is the usual FPS for those kind of guns. DMR (400 - 500) or support weapons (350 -400)

2. Camo is usually a must! In a majority of our games we wear Green (Woodland, MARPAT, etc) or Tan (Desert, Desert Digital, etc) camo are always good to have. In some games, one team will wear insurgent-like clothing or whatever! A lot of the games being held will have info about what the teams will wear.

3. A majority of our games are on Sundays mainly, but we'll have some games on Saturdays (most are out in Belen or other parts of NM, but Oak Flats is the ANM-ABQ based site)!

4. Full facemask or ESS goggles are always a must (balaclavas are optional, depending on your preference).

5. Oak Flats is one big field of 20 acres! We just have to watch out for where the property ends, because there's a home owner not too far from the field. We do have plans to setup mine field warnings or radiation signs around to warn players that they are out of bound.

Anyway I hope that kind of helps you out! I'm not really that great of an expert when it comes to FPS or game planning (that's usually the upper echelons field of planning)

Thanks for the help, but I do not feel like I am being understood entirely:

-I understand what I am getting into, FPS-wise. What I didn't understand is whether or not this was a suggestion, or an absolute minimum.

-Which of these camouflage patterns work best at Oak flats in order:
Woodland MARPAT, Woodland BDU, Desert BDU, ACU?

-I wasn't asking whether or not to wear eye protection. What I really was asking was whether to choose a full face mask or a balaclava+goggles combo. What is the average engagement distance? At my home field, I am usually getting hit from around ~100 feet.

-Are .2g bbs in any way better than .25g bbs? I prefer .25 when shooting 350-400 fps AEGs.

-How many players usually show up?

Thanks.

Let me help a clear this up a bit:

There is no minimum. only maximums that very from types of guns. assault rifles 400fps max. snipers 500fps max. ect. We chrono the guns wit ha .20 gram bb. you are free to use whatever weight bb after you crono in.

The camo doesn't exactly matter. Oak Flats has desert and forest areas. If you are wearing woodland based camo you will stick out in the desert area, but if you wear any desert based camo you will stick out in the the woods.

Personally i would suggest some desert based camo, or maybe a hybrid like multi-cam.

most games around here you have to wear goggles at a minimum. if you are going to a game specifically organized by ANM you are required to wear goggles and a balaclava. If you are under 18 and attending an ANM game you need to wear a face mask.

Let me repeat: the goggle balaclava or face mask are only required at a ANM organized game, not every game that is posted on here is ANM organized. basically if they guy named Adam is running it, it is ANM game.

hope that made sense.

about bbs, it depends on what you are shooting. you can shoot 400fps and used .20 but you wont be as accurate. I prefer using .25 bbs in all my guns, regardless of what they are shooting.

for players, it is hard to say. some games yield 50+ people but for the most part, we get around 25 people at a game. it usually depends on how early the game was announced, and how well it was published.

Thanks for the help, but I still have questions:

I will be in Albuquerque for two weekends. Where should I find postings for upcoming games; the Central NM section, or the Upcoming events and planning? When do they typically start?

EDIT: Okay, here is the deal. If I am going to be able to make it to a game or two, I am going to need some specific times in a day or two. How early can a game be posted? Who can post a game? Is there any way I can encourage a game to be hosted at a particular time?

ALSO: I am planning to bring my old BDU that I bought from a local surplus store. It came with real issue Army patches. Are Oak Flats players offended by this at all, considering that I have never served in the military? I in no way intend to imitate a real service person.

Let me see if I can help you, Lobo!

Usually, you will find information about upcoming OPs or games in the Upcoming Events and Planning section. Since I've been here, a new OP has generally been posted about a week before the actual game.

As for wearing the patches and all that, I see no problems with it, but others may have some problems with it. I suggest bringing some electrical tape, and if anyone says anything about it, tape up the patches. Then when you're done, you can easily remove the tape!

Hope I helped.

Thanks, that helps.

I'm sorry that I have to be so pushy, but I really need a game to be posted on the 27th of June and the 4th of July by tonight. Anything later is not likely going to work with me, as I need to plan in advance. I would love to skirmish with you guys, but this is turning out to be complicated.

Can anyone host a game at Oak flats? Is there any way I can encourage one to be posted?
