Mobility - the quality of being mobile

When we say be mobile we mean a couple things. One is that you should not grow roots during a firefight. If you are not moving, the enemy is and is going to flank you. Two is that movement should be deliberate and controlled.

A basic application is the Bounding Overwatch:

Scenario - a four man team is assualting a machine gun nest.

Movement - 1 and 3 move four paces forward and drop. 2 and 4 proved cover fire while 1 and 3 move. 1 and 3 provide cover fire while 2 and 4 advance just past them. They are no closer than 3 meters (9') in horizontal separation.

Why no closer than 3m and why use 5m as an ideal separation?

a. You force the enemy to physically move his aim to shoot at two separate targets.
b. You are not too close that a burt of fire will eliminate more than one team member.
c. It allows you to flank more easily.
d. All of the above.

Since this is a government level test, D is the correct answer.
