Today, there is an increasing trend that residents in a same community do not know each other. While this phenomenon is usually frowned upon by many socialists, I would say any social phenomenon should be considered from both positive and negative perspectives.

Indeed, some sociological experts tend to focus on the detrimental ramifications of the alienated relationships between neighbors; they may point to their apprehension in terms of public safety and cohesion of society. It is true that lack of the backgrounds of households living next door may give rise to inadequate sense of security in a community. To complicate matters even further, at the sociological level, the weakening safe consciousness in neighborhoods may reduce social identity among the entire populaceyounger generations grown up in such a community could be increasingly indifferent to others plights, and the phenomenon may therefore exacerbate isolation and public apathy prevailed in modern society.

While such a misgiving about alienation between neighbors does have its justification to some extent, I have to say the ramifications of any social episodes are subject to the viewpoints from which people see the phenomenon. Based on this, the discussion can then move on to handle questions as to which social impacts are mor desirable in the local context or what local residents value morethe same issue that seems repulsive to some people could be beneficial to others when considered from a different aspect of society. In a society where privacy is given priority, to be less entangled in neighbors affairs is a social rule embraced by the majority. Not to be left behind is the underlying relevance to independence of individualsliving in solitude may compels people to be more self-reliant rather than depending on help from the strangers next door.

From what has been discussed, it is my conclusion therefore, the weakening sense of community can be recognized both as negative and positive; it is context dependent.
